The Great Depression- President Hoovers Handling of The Crisis

Herbert Hoover, a republician president at the begininng of the Great Depression, was ineffective because of the way he handled the crisis during Great Depression. He refused to support direct relief or any other firms of federal welfare. The Americans expressed their anger by burning the crops of corn & wheat and pouring out the milk into the highways. They all protested to Washington DC and this game president Hoover a bad reputation.


Essential Questions

1. What are examples of how americans expressed their anger frustrations with president hoover?

-They burned their corn and wheat and poured the milk out on the highways, and also took days off.

2. What were Hoovers princiables? The ones he chose to hold firm on?

-He refused to support direct relief or other forms of federal welfare.

3. Who made up the bonus army and how did what happened to President Hoover?

-The bonus army went to Washington DC to collect all the money that was owed to them at the end president Hoover had a bad repetition because he did not pay the bonus army their bonus.

WWI: Part 1

What treaty did Hitler hate and why?
- Hitler hated the Treaty of Versailles becasue his own country, Germany, were blamed for the war. They had to pay for debt and took away land in order to pay off that debt.


Who became dictators during the 20's-30's and for what country?(Japan, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia)
- The dictators included Stalin of Russia, Mussolini of Italy, Hitler of Germany, Tojo of Japan, and Franco of Spain.


Explain similarities and differences amongst the dictators.
- There were several similarities between the dictators. One of the main ones was that Mussolini and Hitler were both great speakers.


What was the U.S. thinking as several wars were breaking out?
- Most U.S. citizens felt that it was better to stay neutral because the U.S. had already lost lots of soldiers from WWI. Also, America was just getting over the Great Depression.

The Great Depression-hardships & Suffering

1. The Dust Bowl was cause by farmers using all of the land; causing the land to dry up and left dirt and sand which the wind picked up.

2. The Great Depression affected:
- Children by closing schools, poor nutrition, and health problems.
- Families struggle to make ends meet.
- Women struggle to help their family, and caused men to resent them because they had jobs and men did not.
- Men could not find a job.
- People of color suffer racism because they can find jobs and white people cannot.
3. "Hoboes" were people who moved around and don't settle. they travel by hitching on trains.

4. An enduring effect on people because of The Great Depression was saving every penny and food in order to survive.

- They Believed that the bible was inspired by God, and that all its stories & details were true. Also that humans evolved from apes.

- The role of science concept of evoulution.

4. Why did Charles Lingbergh become famous? Louis Armstrong?
-Charles Lindbergh became famous because he was the first to make it across the Atlantic without stopping. Louis armstrong became famous because he was a trumpet player that got to joing the Oliver group which became known as the Creole Jazz Band.

5. What was the Harlem Rennisance?
-A literacy and artistic movement celebrating African American culture.
